Influenza Vaccine?

So many adults are now vaccinated each year for for the flu.  It can be life saving in individuals that are elderly or immune compromised.  However, there is a debate about how cost effective and its efficacy for healthy adults.  With over 200 viruses that cause the flu with the vaccine only covering the top 3 this is a very interesting debate.  Recently an interesting review came out by a very well known journal called the Cochrane Review.  The article reported that after reviewing the evidence published on the flu vaccine found no increases in hospitalizations and complications in the hospital in healthy adults who were or were not vaccinated.  Further they go on to point out the incidence of individuals getting the flu with vaccination compared to without.  In 100 people vaccinated only 1 person got the flu.  In a 100 people who did not receive the vaccine only 4 got the flu.  This is not statistically significant number.  Furthermore, 15 or the 36 studies were funded by the vaccine company.

There are other precautions that individuals can take to prevent getting the flu that can be discussed with your Naturopathic Doctor.
